How I stay on top of my to dos as a small business owner

Being a small business owner (on top of working a 9-5!), I have a LOT of to dos on my plate. Don't get me wrong – I love what I do, and I have so much fun creating content and brainstorming ideas to help you become your most productive and organized self! With that being said, it's important for me to have a top notch task management tool to make sure I'm staying on track delivering that value. My favorite? Monday.com!

Monday.com is a task management platform that offers plenty of easy-to-use features to help you stay on top of your to-do list. Here are a few that I especially love!

Time tracking

Not many platforms allow you to time track, which is one reason why I think Monday.com is the best to-do list app. Time tracking, if you've never heard of it, it essentially a way to track how much time is invested into a certain task. Monday.com allows individual tracking, team tracking, and whole-project tracking. The feature boosts productivity in that it leads to more efficient planning since you know about how long certain tasks take. It can also be a great motivator – you might find yourself increasing your focus to beat your personal record for a task!

Prioritization

Make prioritizing effortless with this to-do list app. Without prioritization, we can lose focus of what's really important, what really moves the needle. Now, of course, you can prioritize your tasks on any planner, but Monday.com makes it extra easy by giving you a designated "priority" column meant exactly for this. The app provides you with three options when creating a task – the to do can either be of high, medium, or low priority, and each is color-coded to make your life a little more organized!

Grouping tasks and subtasks

You know I'm all about organization over here, and Monday.com's ability to categorize, or group, tasks is one of my favorite features. I have a lot, and I mean a LOT, of tasks that I need to manage for both of my jobs, and having all of them in one jumbled up list can make things pretty confusing. So, with Monday.com, I can create categories of to dos for different jobs, projects, and areas of my life. 

Better yet, Monday.com has introduced subtasks, which make project management that much easier. For example, say I have a big project I have to get done. I can create "mini tasks" underneath the large overarching one to ensure I get every step done!

Progress bars 

Progress bars are a feature in Monday.com that both my virtual assistant and I LOVE. Progress bars help you, as well as anyone you might be collaborating with (i.e. your spouse, your coworkers, etc.) stay up to date on what the status of a task is. The feature is extremely customizable based on the type of work you're tracking, but here's how we use it:

I assign my virtual assistant tasks every week, and she's able to log in to Monday.com and input the status of each task. For example, she has the option to put "planned," "working on it," "stuck," and "done." This helps us not only stay on track, but it lets us tweak our schedule if needed. This feature is particularly great if you are working in teams!

Whether you're working individually or with others, and whether you need to keep track of your work to dos or personal ones, Monday.com is, in my opinion, the best task management tool out there. It'll help keep you organized, boost your productivity levels, and ensure that you stay on track with any projects or tasks that come your way. It's beginner-friendly and requires absolutely no training to use.
