Four ways to make spring cleaning easier

Believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about spring cleaning! The act of spring cleaning might seem a bit cliche, but it’s essential if you want to set yourself up for success as the weather warms up. You’ve likely just been hunkered down for a few months, and it can feel like the walls are closing in on you. Cleaning your space and giving yourself a fresh start could be just the thing you need! And the good news? While it can be intimidating, it doesn’t have to feel like a chore.

Here are four ways I make spring cleaning easier on myself - steal one, steal them all!

#1 - Blast music…or a podcast…to make spring cleaning more fun!

I don’t know about you, but turning on a good playlist tends to get me pumped to clean and organize. Not only is music a mood booster, but it also makes the sometimes long task of spring cleaning go by much quicker. So whether it’s pop, classic rock, or whatever you love to listen to, try cranking up the music and cranking out that cleaning!

Not one for a jam sesh? Maybe tune into a podcast instead. I’m a BIG podcast girl - I listen to ones on so many different topics, from entrepreneurship to pop culture to real estate investing and everything in between - and I love that I can learn or laugh while I get my spring cleaning done!

#2 - Cleaning room by room will simplify your life as you spring clean

The most effective way to accomplish a big cleaning project, such as spring cleaning your whole house, is to take it room by room. Like other big tasks, breaking down the overarching goal into smaller, more manageable to dos makes it less overwhelming.

Think about it… looking at spring cleaning as “cleaning the entire house” is pretty intimidating. Instead, think about deep cleaning the kitchen one day, the bedroom the next, the bathroom the day after, etc. Sounds easier, right?!

#3 - Download a checklist so your spring cleaning to dos are laid out for you

Tackling a major task like spring cleaning often requires a game plan. By downloading a checklist from the Internet, you’ll see all the possible different spring cleaning to dos – such as steaming the baseboards, wiping the refrigerator drawers, etc. – in one spot, helping you stay on track and not skip over anything important.

Of course, you can make your own, too, but downloading one and just prioritizing whatever applies to you can save you a little extra time. No matter what, the most important thing is to find and use a checklist that is realistic and works for YOU!

#4 - Get the household involved in the fun to simplify your own life

If spring cleaning is making you feel overwhelmed, try getting the household involved! Whether it’s your significant other, kids, or roommates, having a few extra hands is always helpful.

I recommend delegating roles to each member of the household. That way, everyone has a clear-cut idea of what they’re responsible for getting done, making spring cleaning that much more efficient.

And yes…kiddos are included in that recommendation! You’d be surprised at how helpful they can be. Throwing music on, turning cleaning into a type of “game,” or establishing a reward can make it more fun for the young ones. Just make sure their responsibilities are appropriate for their age.

Spring cleaning is a big undertaking, but it’s so worth it in the end. Nothing beats the feeling of starting the season off with a fresh, clean, and organized space! So go easy on yourself, break things up into smaller tasks, and within no time, your home will be ready for the new season.
